A driver salary receipt is what closes the month: gross earnings on the left — basic, batta, trip incentive, overtime — and everything already taken on the right, so advances, loan instalments, diesel shortfalls and challans paid on his behalf net off against it. What is left is the amount actually handed over, and the driver signs for that figure. The thumb-impression box is not decoration: for a driver who does not sign, it is what makes the receipt hold up if the payment is ever disputed.
