Questions
What is the difference between a lorry receipt, a bilty and a consignment note?
Nothing — they are three names for the same document. "Lorry receipt" and "LR" are the common usage in South India, "bilty" in the North and West, and "consignment note" is the formal term used in the rules. Whichever you call it, the fields are the same and a check post will accept it.
What does "freight to pay" mean on a lorry receipt?
That the consignee pays the freight when the goods are delivered, not the consignor at booking. "Paid" means the consignor has already settled it. "To Be Billed" means neither pays at the door — it goes onto a monthly transport bill instead. Tick the wrong one and the driver either gets turned away or hands over goods he should have collected for.
Is a lorry receipt the same as an e-way bill?
No. The e-way bill is a government-generated number that authorises the movement; the lorry receipt is the transporter's own document acknowledging the goods. You may need both, and the e-way bill number goes onto the LR so they point at each other. One does not replace the other.
Is the lorry receipt free to download?
Yes. PDF, Excel download without a sign-up, an email address or a watermark. You can also put your own business name and GSTIN on it from the panel beside the document and print that — nothing you type is uploaded anywhere.
Can I change what is on this lorry receipt?
Yes. The panel beside the document adds and drops blocks — letterhead, e-way bill row, reason for transportation, signatures — and switches paper size, language and the number of item rows. Whatever the document shows is what downloads.
