What your tolls actually cost, per trip
Paste the rows from your FASTag statement below. You'll get toll per trip, toll per kilometre, and toll as a share of freight — the numbers a monthly total hides. Nothing is uploaded; the maths runs in this page.
A quiet stretch longer than this splits one trip from the next.
Why a monthly toll total misleads you
Say you paid ₹28,000 in toll last month across nine trips. Booked as one month-end figure, every trip carries about ₹3,100 and they all look similarly profitable. In reality a Thanjavur–Chennai run crosses seven plazas and a local Kumbakonam run crosses one. The long run might carry ₹6,200 of toll and the short one ₹340.
Average them and the expensive lane looks fine — so you keep taking it. That is the entire cost of not splitting toll per trip: not the accounting neatness, but the lane you would have dropped if you could see it.
Where to download your FASTag statement
| ICICI, HDFC, Axis, Kotak, IndusInd | Net banking → FASTag → Statement / Transaction history → pick range → CSV |
| IDFC FIRST | FASTag portal → Passbook → download |

Most issuers keep about six months online. Download before it rolls off.
Questions operators ask
How do I download my FASTag statement?
Log in to the bank or issuer that supplies the tag — ICICI, HDFC, IDFC FIRST, Axis, Kotak, IndusInd, Paytm, Airtel or NHAI — and open the FASTag or toll section. Look for "Statement", "Transaction history" or "Passbook", choose the date range, and download CSV or Excel. Most issuers keep six months online. On the NHAI/IHMCL portal the same data sits under My Profile → Transaction history.
How do I work out toll cost per trip from a FASTag statement?
Take the plaza crossings that fall between the trip's start and end time and add up those amounts — that is the trip's toll. Do not divide a monthly toll total across trips equally: a Chennai run and a local Thanjavur run cross entirely different numbers of plazas, so an average hides which lane is actually expensive. Subtract the trip's toll from its profit to get the real figure.
What percentage of freight should toll be?
On South Indian National Highway runs, toll typically lands between 4% and 9% of freight for a 20–25 tonne truck. Consistently above 10% usually means one of three things: the lane crosses more plazas than the fare accounts for, the return leg is running empty, or the rate was quoted before the last toll revision. Below 3% generally means a state-highway or local route with few plazas.
Is toll a per-trip cost or a monthly cost?
Per trip. Toll is incurred by a specific truck on a specific route on a specific day, so it belongs to that trip. Booking it as a month-end lump makes every trip that month look equally profitable, which hides exactly the lanes you would want to stop running. It is often the second-largest cost after diesel on a long-haul run.
Can I claim GST input credit on toll?
Toll charges are outside GST — they are not a taxable supply, so there is no input tax credit to claim on the toll itself. Any service or convenience fee an issuer charges on top may carry GST. Treat toll as a straight cost of the trip, and take the credit conversation to diesel, tyres, spares and AMC instead.
Doing this every month, by hand?
Fleetbooks pulls your FASTag crossings automatically and charges each trip its own toll — so every profit figure you see is already net of it, and the lanes that don't pay show up on their own.
